Unchained

May 15, 2008
Recently we met Lea, one of the founders of a great business called Unchained. The Unchained Guide is a guide to some of the best independent London shops - shops which are independent (unchained!) and unique. Specialist shops and other well-run independents. The kind of shops you love to discover and hope do well, like The Hive Honey Shop on Northcote Road in Clapham Junction (a shop I used to love when I lived there a few years ago). One of the trends of the past decade that he identified is that consumers are more discerning than ever. Service levels have risen and there have been numerous innovations, but consumers are less happy than they have ever been w ...

Some freebies for BB's

Apr 28, 2008
A new BB's Coffee & Muffins shop has opened in one of Woking’s two shopping centres. I was perusing their selection of toasties and thinking that, at £2.60, they looked quite pricey for their small size, when I spotted a “Meal Deal” sign promoting their “Coffee and Toastie” deal at £3.85 – “any fresh toastie and any regular hot drink” said the small print. Brilliant, I thought, in that case I’ll have a coffee as well. So I looked across to the large list titled “H ...
